Hear me out this idea is been stuck with me for so long ever since this came up when I was thinking what possible ideas to add up to terraria and I don't know if someone already come up with this suggestion but I am going to share it anyway.
What and how does this "Pet house" work?
It's just technically something that the pets do in an area, like how the NPCs go to their houses; sometimes they go out, go in, walk around, but in some pets cases, they fly around. How to use the "Pet House" is to just craft it like some sort of chest, but that chest has only one slot for one pet, whether it be a light one or a normal one and just put the "Pet House" were you like it to put.
What makes this "Pet House" unique?
Like chairs, tables and work benches they have different types of recipes that makes them unique like for example in work benches they have "Nebula Work Bench", Solar Work Bench, and more. It doesn't matter what type of Pet House they are made off for they still work on any pet you want to use for that unique Pet house.
Another thing is that there are two types of pet houses and these types are different from each other and pets that are first type won't work on the second type pet houses.
First type: Pet houses for pets that don't fly often and more one walking unless the player is flying then they fly. This pet house is more like a dog house or something.
Second type: Pet houses for pets that always hovers or fly around the player making them flying type of pet. This pet house is more like a bird house or something.
The purpose of these Pet houses to be added in the game is so that I an others can enjoy watching many of their favorite pets moving around the town so that the place could feel more alive and mystical or something... and also I like looking at my many pets at the same time similar to how in Minecraft were there is no limit to how many pets are there in our village or house to be around.
