Casual Unpopular Opinion Thread

Pretty much all of those except the expert accessories are so wildly off meta that I really think you should be using shark tooth necklace instead of them.

Correct. They multiplicatively apply while defense is a flat application. This means that defense becomes less of a concern for minishark the more damage modifiers you have. Plug this into your graph and you’ll see that the point at which the lines cross moves further right as you add more damage.

It’s not outclassed. Money is basically infinite now as there are a trillion ways to get infinite money from the start of the game. It's only outclassed at almost everything if you ignore the many, many ways to make it work for almost everything. For example if you give it knockback by eating literally any food it becomes extremely effective at stunlocking regular enemies. Minishark also has a much smaller reforge pool so reforging it is very quick and it only loses out on 10% attack speed compared to Unreal due to being able to get the Demonic modifier so it's not actually behind at all.
Good point but you can achieve the same outcome with a couple bombs in an evil biome. I don't use the shark tooth necklace because my damage is good since I'm not relying on the minishark and mobility is really important so I prefer the boots, wings, and obsidian shield for no knockback. I'm simply saying for the minishark to work on the same level as the other items it requires more setup and that SAME setup could be used for the other ones which will simply make the gap be the same.

The setup makes minishark better than the other options because not every weapon scales identically.
Mobility is important, correct. Which is why I use a Golf cart and featherfall potions to invalidate mobility accessories. You don’t need to waste accessory slots on mobility.

minishark sucks, it's harder to get than the musket and undertaker yet uses more ammo and has less damage over time not to mention it has 0 knockback which is crucial earlygame, also it has bad spread long range and cost a gajillion gold early game when you probably only have 50 silver
Counterpoint: It looks cool as hell.

I also find it really easy to get money, have you considered investing in crypto? Get your money up.

Alright I made another chart comparing the three with EVERY pre-hardmode enemy's listed defense on the wiki. I left out the expert-MM exclusives and left out the wall of flesh's the hungry 1 as it's defense scales with boss health. I also listed the variants of all enemies too. It's only viable with a shark tooth necklace and even better with the honey version as well but this also means you'll be giving up 1-2 accessories just to have it do the same amount of damage as the musket/undertaker. I left the bosses marked and there's sliders for bullet damage and armor penetration as well. I'm working on a version for expert mode, MM and the journey mode difficulty slider but the problem I'm coming across is how inconsistent certain enemies defense scales.

Again, if you use better bullets or any damage the intersection moves further right while the enemy defenses do not. Party Bullets for example basically subtract 6 enemy defense for all guns. This is without considering stuff like Exquisitely Stuffed. And it is not “investment for the same damage” it is “investment to do better damage.” If you like I can provide killtimes for prehardmode bosses to prove this.

Also keep in mind you're in an unpopular opinion thread. Party bullets are hardmode. The highest damage you can get for a bullet in prehardmode is 9 with tungsten, silver, or meteor, only +2 compared to the musket. Let me rephrase my earlier statement: the minishark doesn't suck, but it is plenty overrated. You can provide killtimes for prehardmode bosses, but the only way it can compete is with outside gear. Every boss besides EOW and WOF Eye has an 8+ defense, which, statistically speaking, will always perform worse unless you have amazing luck. I'm simply saying the gun by itself compared to the others is straight up worse; the Minishark doesn't suck, but it is very average. If we even just compare it to the handgun, it gets completely eclipsed, and while yes, they are obtained at different stages, people act like the Minishark is one of the best prehardmode guns when it isn't. It's slightly better than a musket if your enemy has less than 8 defenses and everything 8+ does a subpar job. The only way it stands a chance is with outside items; in a vacuum, the Minishark simply isn't as good as it seems. This isn't even mentioning it's bullet spread, no knockback, more bullet consumption, high cost and lesser obtainability too. When I compare these weapons I'm speaking in a vacuum void of any outside gear. The minishark is simply subpar.

No. Pigronatas can drop them.

I find such vacuums meaningless for practical discussion, especially when discussing weapon viability. I’m going to sign off here I think. We clearly have different priorities as to what makes a weapon good.

I've never seen that anyone ever used Life Drain tho it's a great weapon I use in every mage playthrough. That's a great weapon for crowd control or defeating Destroyer/Skeleteon Prime cuz of splash damage and life regen increase. The only problem is that it is fairly bad against single target.
I can definetly say I've never really used it. Kinda forget it exists

I use Life Drain in my mage run and yeah, it's a good weapon. Don't have a lot to say about it.

Sitting is overrated.

Hysterically genuflecting is underrated imo

Life Drain is almost always considered A+ or S- tier by everyone who remembers it exists. It’s an extremely good weapon

Anyway Nebula Arcanum is underrated
