Books and spellbooks are great, and it is nice that we can make bookcases, but they are incompatible. Wouldn't it be great to have an empty shelf on all bookcases that could store up to 10 books or spells?

You would right-click the bookcase to bring up ten slots where the crafting window shows up. Then you can take a book or spell from your inventory and set it in one of the slots. The corresponding spot on the shelf will now have a book.

Yes but the only thing that would make sense to put there would be books, I don't see the aqua staff taking up the same amount of space as a book and it would look weird. At the moment there are only a few spells that take the form of books also I think it would be rather time consuming to code a bookshelf that changes graphic depending on what it's contents are, as there are currently no items in game that currently do that.
 
Hm. Good point. Maybe it looks the same but still contains said books?
Also, I was referring to spell books.
I will specify this.
