Killed WoF and he killed me a half second later. Left demonite box for me but nothing else. Can I get a pwnhammer? Or a suggestion on how to acquire/make an 80% hammer for altars? I'm stuck...

Sounds like the items despawned. The game has a bit of a auto cleanup feature but that should only trigger if to many items are dropped around the world, just wait for your guide to respawn and battle WOF again. You'll want to do it a few times anyway for the dmg boost items it drops. You could set up a boulder rain trap for the battle to give you extra damage.
