After seeing what 1.3 had to offer I realized there were a few gaps
I also realized that the gems don't have that much progression based use after the wall of flesh has been killed
My proposal is simple and fills a gap that some would actually enjoy

I assume the higher tiered staves are crafted at an anvil of the apporative tier?
And those dont do anything that the normal staves dont besides more dmg?
The staves that are in this suggestion are made at an mythril/orichalcum anvil I will edit that into the thread :p
 
I like this. I feel it gives mages more options to get a leg up before beating some of the harder enemies leading into hardmode. There's really only so many options for magic users and I think it should be expanded a little bit more. I hope this gets noticed and added to the game~

As a suggestion, would using some of the older staffs be too much for the crafting recipe, instead of creating entirely new orbs? (Not that I'm against them) but could the staffs not be made from older staves and become the more powerful equivalents instead of being tossed aside? Just curious and you can take this with a grain of salt. ^_^

You have a point but you have to remember that some ores are not obtainable on worlds like a world could generate with tin and there would be an the amethyst staff

You could make them interchangeable similar to how Iron and Lead works? I mean the way you made the staves already limits certain aspects anyways due to, as you said certain ore not generating since you only get 1 of 2 of 3 in Hardmode. I mean in that regard some of the orbs are useless in other worlds without said ore isn't that correct?

I guess I could create more staffs for worlds with other ores
I just remembered that they have crates and extractinator
