What if Terraria is not a planet at all? (Half stupid theory)

This is not a complete joke. Things in game have got me thinking..what if Terraria isn't even a planet?

Key point: I am ignoring the size of game world upon creation.

One major question in Terraria is "where the hell did mankind go". It did not go completely extinct, as we obviously have several NPCs, but for a "planet", there aren't many humans at all. Virtually none are seen traveling in the background.

Sure, some kind of apocalypse could possibly explain this lack of a population. And yes, I know there are a lot of undead enemies, so it's possible mankind did get mutated or cursed, but to have a world this barren in humanity feels incredibly strange.

The Dryad tells you to purify the world of all evil to "save it", but that seems meaningless given the numbers of people. What humanity are you even saving? You can't possibly expect that this would remotely work. And think about defeating the Moon Lord. If this is all that remains of humanity, is fighting him even worth it? The only way this can all make sense is if there are actually other humans out there.

The evidence that can really support my theory comes down to the existence of Pirates. Despite them not being major antagonists at all, they do seem to explain a weird oddity. In the lore, they are said to come from distant lands. Pirates in the real world are seafaring thieves and travellers. This implies they came from a place beyond Terraria itself.

However, there is a problem with that theory. You cannot go too far across the ocean before it blocks you off from leaving. So where did these pirates come from? How the hell did they get in? I can't answer that beyond a "maybe there is a forecfield of some kind" lol

Now the existence of pirates could imply that at least some nations may have regressed in technology, as their theme is clearly based on the golden age of piracy in the 1600s to 1700s of the real world. Meanwhile, Terraria itself seems to be an anomaly of a kingdom, as there are quite a few magic weapons and medieval themed weapons, but also firearms and even laser weaponry. This puts the time period into question.

There exists a princess in Terraria, implying some kind of royalty existing, but that doesn't make this an entirely medieval nation, as some princesses even exist today. Some elements also seem to be a bit of a kitchen sink, as we have a steampunker, which is based on the 1800s. There are also futuristic elements, like an actual cyborg character.

Now if there are other humans, why does that matter? Well, I think there could be a possible reason that things are the way they are. What if the outside world hated the people in Terraria for releasing the apocalypse through people like the Cultist faction? What if they were sealed off by a magic forcefield to block them off from affecting the rest of Earth? What if the Dryad is nigh-omniscient, but not aware of this?

In my headcanon, stuff like world border (you talked about this here), NPC and player respawning, Refights of bosses etc. Does not exist. So I cant approve this.

Other areas seperated by water implies terraria is a island.

Also, the traveling merchant (or whatever he’s called) says he has traveled to distant lands and can bring yiu cool stuff

That is an stupid way to look at this. Those islands are probably just some random, small and isolated places.
To me, The land We play on is the entire Terraria world. Those islands are just other small lands.

I see..ok

It would be interesting if airplanes were sometimes seen flying in the background, implying humanity is doing just fine, while Terrarians deal with chaos and monsters.
