PC What is "Difficulty 3"?

So I was reading a bit about Terraria 1.3 and its other versions on the wiki. I then saw the bug fixes for 1.3.0.3, where I saw this:

What is difficulty 3? Is it like a new game mode?

1. Normal mode
2. Expert mode
3. _______ mode

Or is it like a new hazard biome?

1. Corruption
2. Crimson
3. _________

If I had to guess, some kind of dev test mode.

It is listed in the PC 1.3.0.3 bugfixes, so it wasn't vandalism to the Wiki. @Cenx maybe you could let us know what it is?

3. hardcore

btw if you are interested in all changes made, it seems sometimes not all stuff listed in change log. E.g. in 1.3.5 a fundamental change was made at the calculation if a npc flat is valid or not (fixing asymmetric). But that's not listed in changelog.

If thats the case, then why didnt the fixes list just display "Fixed issue where Softcore players could hack into Hardcore". Clearly it seems like difficulty 3 indeed is a never before seen difficulty
