Sure, the base game isn't all that hard, but the community made levels just get absolutely insane. The hardest one took like a year to verify it was possible with tens of thousands of attempts.

Yeah, the Base game is pretty easy, but levels like bloodbath and other created levels are just insane.

Dariusburst Chronicle Saviours. Never played any other shmup before it but the bosses lay it on you pretty soon, doesn't help that some of the zones are harder than the bosses themselves. I was playing on an outdated version at the time, so I need to update and get back to it.

The hardest game I've ever completed (and 100%) was Dark Souls III.
I can say, however, that the game itself and other Souls-like games aren't that bad. Strategy and Puzzle games are easily harder. Bullet Hell, Platformer and "Rhythm Games" for lack of a better term (this includes games from Osu! to Geometry Dash) are amongst the hardest games I've ever attempted to play.

personally played, probably a three-way tie between ex terraria, ff12s trial mode, and borderlands 2 ultimate vault hunter mode, for general difficulty, i'd prob say terraria.
