What mods better to use in Terraria for players who came from Minecraft?

Terrarian
Hi everyone!
I've been playing minecraft for 10+ years and want to try something new now, can you please advise some mods to make my "transfer" from minecraft to terraria a little easier?
Thanks <3

I think you should just try vanilla first. But if you absolutely want an answer, Magic Storage is one of the very few mods I consider a genuine improvement of the game, and doesn't interfere with the vision or difficulty of the game.

What are you worried will be a bit of a sticking point? It’s a bit difficult to know what to recommend without knowing what kind of information or issues you think you’ll run into. If you have genuinely no idea I can still recommend some things but they might be a bit overwhelming themselves.

Like, if you have theories or hypotheticals as to what might be difficult to adapt to or any questions about how the game works (for example: “minecraft does [quality of life feature]. Does terraria do it too?”) then please don’t feel embarrassed to ask them. You don’t sound like you know all that much about the game so any questions like that are fair game! :)

I can tell you a few things that are pretty different: Terraria is not a survival game unless you turn on survival mechanics (most people don’t and I actually agree with them, the game is simply too long and the progression is ill-suited for survival mechanics). It does still have many sandbox and building mechanics, but significantly more fleshed out combat with a lot more variety to the point where some people actually disregard the sandbox bits of it entirely to focus on the combat instead. You can really get away with doing either style, but I personally recommend going at a slower pace when learning the game.

Magic Storage is honestly completely unnecessary outside of big content mods which add a ton of new materials and recipes to keep track of in my opinion. Chests usually do suffice for most vanilla purposes unless you want to rush through the game and ignore sandbox stuff.

Personally I'd just enjoy them as separate games instead of trying to partially convert one into the other. They're fundamentally different.

Minecraft is more focused on building and using a 3D environment to explore new biomes and interact with the world.
Terraria is more focused on fighting, defeating bosses, and finding loot to make yourself stronger and the world harder.

The only thing they truly have in common is that you can mine blocks.

It's probably better to play without mods if you're just starting out, there's no mods that will make Terraria more like Minecraft - if anything it's an easier game as there isn't any food to manage, you don't drop all your items on death (unless you choose a Mediumcore character in the character creation screen), and the villagers in Terraria respawn infinitely.

tl;dr there are no mods that make Terraria more like Minecraft from the sense of learning the game, they're very different titles, you'll just have to be willing to use the wiki occasionally, and remember to talk to the Guide (he functions like the Minecraft recipe book)

Thank you guys!
I'll try vanilla firstly <3
