What would be the most beginner friendly class in Terraria?

Terrarian
So, long story short I got Terraria 2 or 3 days ago with a friend, now I did my research and found out that there are classes in this game to maximize your late game DPS stats.
I went mining and found gems which I soon realized I could make magic items with. I'm playing classic journey mode.

The most beginner friendly is to not stick to a single class and use any item you like, given the situation.
Melee is good for close range, ranged for straightforward far range, magic usually has special attributes that can be situationally useful, and summons for freehand mining/fishing ect.

As for armor, I'd also prefer melee because these would give the most defense.

yep, definitely agree with this

however, for complete beginners i'd say go for melee because you don't have to manage resources (ammo/mana) nor do you have to keep respawning summons

Melle due to that you have a weapon for that class at the start

So in the early game of Terraria you really don't need choose a class and stick with it. Preparedness (such as making arenas and making sure you have enough maximum health) and good judgment are usually your keys to success. It starts becoming more important when you're about to kill the Wall of Flesh.

Personally, I'm an advocate of at least having a ranged weapon on you because some enemies hurt  really bad if you make the mistake of getting too close.

Should note too that Summoner is pretty rough to spec into early on in the game. You'll be at the mercy of RNG to get the gear you need for it when you first start out.

Oh yeah, that guy...
(seriously why is his contact damage so high lol)

Usually the builds which get the highest dps are summoner/anything else hybrid builds, but dps isn’t everything and there’s a lot of different playstyles you can go with. If you want you can ignore classes and just stack defense to the point that nothing can kill you! :D

Just play the game and have fun :)

Damage types do exist in the game and later on you definitely do get value out of stacking one particular damage type according to the weapon you're using, but you can switch what damage type you're boosting on the fly and the idea of playing with only one weapon type (i.e. "playing a class") is just a construction. Especially if you're a new player, just use the weapons you get, try them out and see what feels good to use. No point in choosing to ignore 3/4ths of the weapons in the game because they just don't have the right word in their description.
