Sadly, it is confirmed that there will be no infinite world size. It does make sense to have no infinite worlds, since your goal is to cleanse the corruption. That would be impossible with an infinite world.
Since you need infinite time to generate an infinite world already, I don't see how the problem is the amount of corruption. By the way, "infinite amount" is understood by everyone but makes no sense since an amount is by definition a finite total. Isn't that a funny thing to think about?
An infinite world would generate more blocks as you move closer to the previous end of world. When you start up a world, it would make a large area, then, as you move to the left, it will add more biomes and stuff to the left side of the world.
This will only bring mediocrity and shallowness, since they'll have to smear all the content over those "Islands" or repeat themselves again and again with them. Though if they add more content than can fit into a single world, having several (but limited amount of) "islands" that have big differences between them would help.
