Dark Harvest is the best speed boost in the game currently. Morning Star is just a worse Kaleidoscope.

The Dark Harvest is significantly faster and deals with massive groups better. Although for a slow moving boss, the Morning Star MIGHT be better but I'm not too sure
Overall in most cases, the Dark Harvest is way better

Morning Star is just a worse Kaleidoscope.

Debatable. Morning Star's has various advantages; it immediately wins in terms of availability since you can get it by just standing around in the dungeon and don't have to run the risk of having to fight Empress of Light sixteen times to get Kaleidoscope.

It is also marginally better at pure mobbing due to having better damage falloff against multiple targets as well as stronger knockback. Pairing it with Tiki Armor gives incredibly long reach and turns a wide cone in front of you into an effective area denial zone, but this value is debatable when 'scope under similar conditions can just kill enemies instead.

Its drawback, a slower swing speed, is funnily enough usually just offset by using Dark Harvest to get the attack speed effect and swapping back to Morning Star or 'scope.

I think if you're only using one of them and not bothering with stacking, you'd probably just use Morning Star unless you farm for 'scope. However, the instant you're comfortable with juggling whips, you use both of these without any hesitation. Asking us to pick a better item between two items that are used as a pair is difficult, and all of these options are mediocre against the Moon Lord anyway.

i think for general use the Dark Harvest is better because of the higher attack speed, though i will say that the Morning Star has better piercing (in fact, right now it has the best piercing out of all whips) which can make it more useful in cases where that's needed

also, yeah, as mentioned above, with whip stacking (which i have done a bit myself in that one summoner playthrough) it's possible to negate the low attack speed:

Honestly it really depends. Morning star’s tag is significantly better for single targets, while dark harvest’s is better for groups of mobs.
You can always use both (in fact dark harvest synergizes with morning star by making it faster) so it doesn’t really matter which one is better honestly.

Morning Star is one of 2 sources of summoner crit chance in the entire game, and leather whip doesn't have anything comparable to that. Dark Harvest is also unique though because its tag jumps between enemies, which no other whip does. They're both pretty unique as far as whips go, but I think Dark Harvest is cooler even if it's probably less powerful technically

Using both is better than using just 1 though. They synergize pretty nicely

Morning Star is better.

Even against crowds of enemies, Morning Star combined with Post-Plantera minions is already destroying crowds, because Morning Star itself is very good against crowds on its own right. And for single target DPS, Morning Star is established as having a clear advantage, because besides the tag damage, its large base damage more than makes up for its slightly slower attack speed.

Furthermore, besides being available earlier, Morning Star is also just as good if not better as a support whip. With Firecracker especially, not only can you make Firecracker explosions critically hit, but during events it's also useful to use the knockback to push smaller mobs away from minibosses to remove distractions when using Firecracker + Desert Tiger. Hell, Desert Tiger doesn't even really benefit from extra whip speed when fighting aerial targets like Empress of Light.

You can simply use both, but there is almost never a situation where Dark Harvest is more optimal than Morning Star as the main/primary whip.
