tAPI [WIP][Released] Metroid Mod

Status
Not open for further replies.
Speaking of which, I guess I need to explain what I've been doing the past month or two...

I have made no progress for updating my Metroid Mod to Terraria 1.3. Ever since 1.3 came out, and tAPI has discontinued, I began fiddling with Game Maker: Studio. And since then, I've started production on my first (fan) game, and I've come to a conclusion...

I have decided to leave the Terraria modding scene, but do not be discouraged, I will not leave permanently.
As I have stated long before, this mod will not die. And while I'm gone, one of two things can happen to help prevent its possible fate:

1: If someone is willing, at least a decent modder, and persistent, PM me, and I'll give you all the my current, unreleased source code for my mod, along with all the ideas I had for this mod, and he/she can continue making this mod in my stead. Or...

2: I will come back, and finished what I started. However, while I can definitely say that I may start back on this in the future, it will not be in the near future.
Hopefully by then, I'll have access to fully up-to-date modloaders with tons of features for me to choose from to make my ideas into a reality in full.

I'm honestly really sorry I will not be continuing this again soon, or that there's the possibility of me no longer being the developer for this mod, but I will say that this has been the best 3 years of my life, as I love programming.
But alas, time moves on, and so does my life and my venture into game development...

That is all... :sigh:

Mechanics
The Power Beam overheats when used excessively.
A meter, located under the charge meter, indicates how much the Power Beam is overheated.
The Overheat meter will cool down at a rate of 30 points per second (0.5 points per game frame). However, the player can use Concentration (default: R) to cool it down at a rate of 120 points per second (2 points per game frame).
When the Power Beam is fully overheated, the player must wait until it cools down enough before they can fire it again.
Somersaulting is an aesthetic game mechanic, triggered by doing a second jump with the Space Jump, Space Jump Boots, or the Screw Attack. Although it's aesthetic for the Space Jump (Boots), it's actually needed to be triggered in order for the Screw Attack to function and damage enemies.
Somersaulting only works in the air, as it's obviously disabled once the player lands back on the ground. The player is also needed to keep moving left or right in order to stay somersaulting, as Space Jumping in place will keep somersaulting disabled.
The Power Beam and Missile Launcher are very useful weapons, as various addons can be made to make these weapons more powerful. Addons can be installed by selecting the Power Beam/Missile Launcher in your hotbar and pressing the appropriate key (default: Q).

The Power Beam has 5 addon slots, each with their own designated type, allowing fairly specific combinations to be installed into the beam. The slot types are as follows:
Charge,
Secondary,
Utility,
Primary A,
and Primary B.

As you know, in Super Metroid, combining Spazer and Plasma Beam was an impossible feat. The Power Beam by itself cannot function with both the Primary A and B slots in use, unless an upgraded Charge addon is installed.
The Charge Beam V2 allows the use of combining Primary A and B addons. The Charge Beam V2 is also a lot more advanced in that it completely changes the way every beam looks, each new look resembling the beams from Metroid Fusion and Metroid Zero Mission (whereas the beams originally resemble beams from Super Metroid).

The Missile Launcher only has 2 addon slots, and one expansion slot. These slots are designated as Charge and Primary, whereas the Expansion slot doesn't count as an addon slot.
2r22an6.png

A Phazon Meteor will be created on world generation, as the last thing to be generated. The Phazon Meteor looks just like a normal Meteor consisting of normal Phazon, but the center of it will consist of a red Phazon Core.
Phazon, as well as the core, cannot be mined by normal means, such as pickaxes or drills. The only tool capable of mining out any of the meteor is the Nova Laser.
Simply mining one block of the core will cause the entire core to explode (watch out, it can hurt), and upon doing so, it will cause the world to generate Phazon, with the phrase, "Your world has been corrupt with Phazon!"
The player then can find Phazon underground like any other ore.
Every power suit has a Sense Move ability.
Sense Move is a dodge ability, originally from Metroid: Other M, which can be activated by holding the Sense Move key (default: Shift) and pressing Left/Right when an enemy is coming after you.
Sense Move is entirely Work In Progress, as it's far from perfect. So expect changes to its behavior in the future.
This mod contains an assortment of options in the mod options menu:
2i8u7bo.jpg

These options mostly include key customizations, but it also includes other little options, such as turning on/off the HD particle effect for the Phazon Beam, or other options for the X-Ray Visor's Head Tracking.

(Will add example gifs for... everything, in the future.)

Known Bugs
Multiplayer
This mod is yet to be fully multiplayer compatible. Crashes will occur very fequently. Or maybe your whole server will crash before anyone can even join it...
Beam offsets
Sometimes when firing a beam consisting of more than one shot, one of the shots will be delayed by a frame and the shots will be offset. This does not affect the damage, however, it's a bit funky looking.

Flying Arm Cannons
If you have a trail effect (i.e. Shadow Armor or Speed Boosting) and you're somersaulting, upon firing the Power Beam, little arm cannons will fly off in random directions for 2-3 frames. I have no idea what causes it, so I don't know how to fix it yet...
Please report bugs as you find them. I really wanna fix as many as I can.

Changelog
2.0 r4a (Hotfix)
Fixed crash caused by shooting the Wave-Spazer combo off the edge of the map.
Skeletrons arms are no longer freezable.

Speed Booster tweaked
Fixes
Fixed graphical bug caused by throwing the Missile Launcher out of your inventory while using Concentration
Reworked Grappling Beam. Should now be more bug-free.
Ice Beam debuff reworked. On top of not being able to freeze bosses, it also cannot freeze enemies who have 3000 max HP or more.
Speed Booster can no longer be equipped when the player already has the Space Booster equipped and vice-versa.

Fixed similar bugs involving the Speed Booster. The Blue Suit is no more. ;-; (Lol)
Ice Beam can no longer freeze WoF's eyes. It is also less effective against Skeletron(Prime)'s arms (needs further tweaking, actually...)
Serris's Speed Boost ability has been adjusted to be more lethal.
Green Plasma Beam tweaked. Should be more viable for crowd control.
Morph Ball now properly disables Flying Carpet while active. (Somersaulting is also disabled when using the Flying Carpet.)

Final Notes
I highly recommend using Shockah's Fancy Cheat Menu, as it will greatly help in obtaining items that were meant to be obtainable but either had an unfair recipe, or had no recipe at all.

(Old tConfig version can be found here, but I don't know if anyone still wants to play it...)

Just one quick question (awesome mod btw never played it but just the content and the stuff my bro showed me :D ) is it going to be availible for TModLoader?

Not unless someone starts the mod again scooterboot stopped working on it sadly. There is a way to run it again but you have to replace to the 1.3 content with 1.2.4.1 content.

I have an idea. Along with the regular find and build concept you could add in the ability to get the obtainables in small randomly generated areas but the catch is that the bosses (except Kraid and Ridley) that appear in the areas in the Metroid games or the areas wirh puzzels will also be evident making it a challenge. And to stop the "sequence breaks" make the later bosses strong enough to easily beat the player and ergo, stop them from obtaining the item. This is just an suggestion for your own considdration.

:sigh:

All I have to say is; If you give this to some good modder with knowledge of tmodloader modding, then hopefully the mod can be revived by said person

It was good to have you on the modding scene ever since Tconfig and T-API, you will be missed by a lot of loyal fans

So uh i could use some help installing tapi. Id love to get this mod because i love metroid but i looked up a video on youtube and im usually pretty proficient in these areas but i have tAPI installed and game launcher and i already have this mod but tAPI wont launch. I click it in game launcher and hit "launch" and it makes a noise (assumingly from vanilla terraria) and then nothing... help.....

tAPI is incompatible with Terraria 1.3 or newer. Are you using one of those versions?

I downloaded tapi r.16 1.2.4.1 and i have terraria 1.3.0.8 or whatever the latest version is.

You require R15 to run this mod, technically.

Aside from that, most of the good mods are now r16 , ported to TMODLOADER, or something, alot of the older TAPI mods are R15

Aside from that, for anyone to port this to Tmodloader, they'll have to make the beams seperate guns and revert them to mana items again. Which won't be hard at all.

Then they'll have to find an alternative for phazon.

You underestimate the power of modding.;)

Thats the reason why, as you need the 1.2.4.1 version instead of 1.3.0.8
This essentially answers your question. tAPI is outdated and basically won't work. 1.3 re-optimized some of the texture files and removed some and moved others to different directories, and tAPI requires the texture files prior to 1.3. Therefore, it's throwing an error somewhere about missing files.

The error can't be seen normally (for whatever reason), but you should be able to find the error in written form if you go to tAPI's error log directory (C:\Users\User\Documents\My Games\Terraria\tAPI\Logs) and open the latest .txt file there.

If I am correct about all this, I'm pretty sure I already know what the log says ("Unable to fine XXX file" or something like that).

Some people have got tAPI to work after 1.3 by either keeping their old 1.2 texture files or...
*COUGH* Piracy *COUGH* which I do NOT encourage.
