With Great Power Comes Great Accessibility - Introducing Terraria's New Journey Mode

The fact that you can remove all challenge from the game with god mode and no spawning enemies means this game is a perfect way to introduce little kids to the world of gaming and let them get used to it in their own way.

Will a Normal -> Journey conversion be possible? I understand why the opposite won't happen but don't see why not for this one.

what i have read before is that it isn't possible, i think that is what i saw, but not really confirming it just in case it is possible, if you are able to make a softcore character to a hardcore character, i don't know how coding it to be like that would work, so it may not be possible.

what does the wind do sense from chippys video it said it was a event so what does it really do??

you could probably fly a kite then, and there are balloon slimes during it. the kite part is just my assumption.

I'm honestly curious to see what the difference between the "Wind event" and just adjusting the wind strength slider in Journey Mode's options is.

What are the chances of TEdit or some other Terraria editor getting an update that transforms a world/character into Journey Mode?

porobably really low.

I don't think there will be, similar to how I imagine turning up the rain will cause the rain event to happen

It's a weather event, so I imagine not much. Sort of like the rain or blizzard.

I think Cenx said they're looking into jorney/normal conversions post-launch, which leads me to believe there'll be some limitations.

This would require a tangible programmed threshold for these sorts of events. The thing here is that it's a slider, not a toggle. Let me run y'all through my thoughts on it.

What's the difference between 0% rain and 100% rain? It's obvious.

Now, what's the difference between 0% rain and 1% rain?
What's the difference between 1% rain and 2% rain?
What's the difference between 2% rain and 3% rain?
What's the difference between 10% rain and 11% rain?
What's the difference between 35% rain and 36% rain?
What's the difference between 66% rain and 67% rain?
What's the difference between 98% rain and 99% rain?
Now, what's the difference between 99% rain and 100% rain?

If some of these questions warrant any response other than "Slightly more rain," then yes, there is a pre-made function within that slider to toggle the rain event on and off, especially given that before this slider there was basically "Is it raining or not?" At least as far as I'm aware.

So at this point I'm curious where the cut-off lies within that slider for when it's raining or monsooning.

I imagine cranking up the slider increases the ammount of rain particles rendered per area of screen, and certain pre-determined thresholds determine wether the rain event is active or not.

question: can you get expert/master items in journey mode?

question: can you get expert/master items in journey mode?
Yes, if you change the mode to expert or master with the difficulty slider

Cenx has revealed that yes, you can (it's probably lost somewhere between the many pages in this thread). I imagine this will be determined by the dificulty level you had selected when the enemy spawned.

cool, thanks!

I'm excited for a lot of these, but I'm REALLY excited for master mode.

Wow... didn't know before that was a thing. I'd swear that every time I Casted out then hit the button again before it hit the Water it'd instead Reel the Line back in...

Also, I think i'll leave pulling up multiple Duke Fishrons at once to Yoraiz0r... I'll pass on doing that & instead bow down to Humility...

Edit: Also, i'm not really excited for Master Mode... i'm pushing my luck daring Expert Mode & mostly cause I want Cute Fishron. For someone like me with no skill, reflexes, memory, or frankly, any way shape or form of actual Brain, Master Mode will be completely invincible vs me... ;(
