Greetings, Terrarians!

We are aware of an issue on Xbox systems which is causing saved data (players, worlds etc.) to disappear from the game, sometimes reappearing much later. We should stress that these save files are still intact on your system, however; the main problem is to do with displaying them.

We have been attempting to locate the main cause behind why, but are at a stage now where we need some more info. If you're experiencing this issue, the following details would be much appreciated:
  • What's your gamertag? (we can use this to verify that your files are indeed still present)
  • When this issue first started happening for you, was it after a cloud storage sync?
  • Which Xbox systems have you played Terraria on in the past? What about currently?
    • i.e Series S/X, One / One S, 360
  • Are there are any save files present on your system from before 1.3, or from before 1.4?
  • How much Saved Data does Terraria have?
    • You can check this by pressing the menu button over the app and navigating to "Manage game and add-ons" > "Saved data"
  • How much remaining system storage does your Xbox have?
    • You can check this in Settings > System > Storage devices > Internal Storage
  • Does booting the game offline display any previously invisible files?
We apologize for how pervasive this issue has been for some players, and appreciate your patience as we zero in on a fix. We hope to have more to share soon.

Hey. I've been having this bug tonight on my Xbox One S and wanted to check in to report the issue as well. It's not just a Series X/S thing, apparently.

User is Cloe6897. Yes, this happened after my Xbox tried to sync data and failed, telling me that I was out of save data (I deleted some data and the issue still persisted.) I owned Terraria on my 360 a long time ago, but that's irrelevant to my current Xbox. There are no save files I know of that are before 1.3. It's saying that I have 0.0kb of save data on Terraria, which is odd. My system storage has about 260gb left. Finally, no, going offline doesn't change anything, it just skips the syncing data part and continues as if I was a new player with no data.

Hope this helps in any way.

Edit: I just tried other games to see if it was a problem on my entire console. Everything else works fine and I have the save data on those, it's just Terraria acting out.

Thanks for the details - this has given me a lot to go off of. One thing I'll also ask, do you know approximately how many players / worlds you had prior to this occurring? Just trying to get a sense of how much data was saved there & whether that plays any part.

I am having the same issue it started around 3 days ago, my user is SEBASS6557, I play on the series S, I have no save files from previous versions, there is 11mb of saved data on my Xbox for terraria, my Xbox has 156.4 GB of storage left, and the world's and characters do not show back up offline. Please tell me it I still have all my stuff still on there, the world I had on there was named Idk and the character I was playing on was named Sebass

Edit- I got my world back but my character isn't back o really need to know if I still have it in my data

I lost all my worlds like you said just a couple days ago and I’m looking to get them back my gamertag is realistic555 it deleted like a couple nights ago I currently play on Xbox series s but I’ve played on Xbox one and 360 and I have no idea why it did this but I would like my worlds back

the newest world I just made after about 12 hours of progress, I saved and quit, and when I returned to menu restarted my terraria game on the XBOX SERIES S, which has been happening to lots of others on this console, my save file completely dissapeared, after re-syncing files opening the game on my friends Xbox on my account the world would not appear and still will not, my gamertag is Cinnamonze#9512, and only 2 players have played on the world, it dissapeared after being loaded as a multiplayer server

First time poster, I’ve run into this issue and I appreciate seeing such a detailed breakdown!

- I’m playing on XBOX Series S through Game Pass

- Gamertag: gundaddyg

- Issue started 11/27/2025 (Opened terraria on my Xbox, ‘syncing files’ load screen took way longer than usual, I was finally greeted by the home screen as normal. But, after selecting any of my characters, I’m prompted to fill out the pop-up used to create a new world, I can’t see any of my saved worlds.

- There are zero saved worlds I can view across any versions.

- Following the saved data instructions. My end shows 7.1MB of saved data present on my console. This is saved on my internal storage that has a free space amount of 68.8GB.

- Terraria Version: 4.4.14.1357

- Unfortunately, I can’t boot the game offline due to I am playing the game through Game Pass.

I hope this issue gets resolved, feel free to contact me for anymore information.

Happy Thanksgiving!

**EDIT/UPDATE**: I went ahead and closed out every game in the ‘Quick Resume’ state on my console, restarted the console, booted Terraria, and everything is back to normal including all of my saved worlds. Keep in mind, I restarted my console many times with no saved games repopulating. It was only after I closed every quick resume game and restarted the console that my saves reappeared. Phew.

I’ve had this issue on my Xbox series S, it started in May 2025. My gamertag is legomaster12006. In addition to my worlds sometimes not appearing. My main world (created pre 1.4 in 2021 on an Xbox one S) has had its save file reset at least a few years. Meaning, any progress that I’ve made on the world within the last 2-3 years has been all but wiped away. My terraria currently has 118.0 MB of saved data. Sometimes booting the game offline and forcing it to sync files makes my worlds appear again. But nothing has been able to bring back the progress on my main world.
