Don't really know how, but a sprite can't really be judged if its transparent or not in my opinion. So the white background is fine, if anyone disagrees please tell me why.

While it looks cool, you've kinda overdone it with the amount of colors you used. Also, if you were going for terraria style, the sword should be tilted to the right. Like so:

Unfortunately, to tilt your sword, you'd have to re-make it completely. Other than that, you've done a good job.

This specific sword was originally a no color pencil drawing I did. Hence the non terraria not tilted stile, but I might do a few Terraria weapons.
As for the color, I know. I don't want to redo it though, but I might make a couple more sprites, so redemption... maybe...?

(also, how did I do with the shading?
