It’s there so you can ask a mod to change something about your post/thread that you can’t change. So for example, if I accidentally posted a thread in the wrong section I could self report and have my thread moved to the right section.

You can also report your thread to lock/unlock it, to reset a poll, basically anything you can't do yourself.
