I'm willing to make that guess too.
That, or he broke his CTRL and V keys pasting the same thing and then changing the numbers over and over again.

What Esther said sounds more likely.

In early Terraria 1.0, there were only 2 hooks, with only 1 new one in 1.1. It doesn't feels like a big deal if it's only a few of them, but with feature creep, it's easier to stick to old habits rather than rewriting them

In original code it's probably some sort of #define hookLength(id, Length) (num3 > Length && this.type == id), however I am amused that programmer can't handle with travel length detection properly and wrote a code, probably by using rock.
@ppowersteef It was more than 11 years ago, the code is editable
