As it stands, the Hallow and Corruption seem to be intended opposites to each other. That's certainly justified, given their motifs and imagery. However, one will find that the Hallow plays a much, much smaller role in Terraria's progression than its evil counterpart, be it Corruption or Crimson.
As the Hallow's entrance to the game marks the single largest change Terraria's world ever experiences, that being Hardmode's beginning, it seems that the biome itself could use a little bit of spicing up.
Currently, each of the biomes have their "claim to fame." For example, the jungle is the gateway to late-game progression, while the Corruption is the first real challenge the player faces and allows them to obtain more important loot such as Molten Armor and, indirectly, the hardmode ores. The hallow, meanwhile, provides a decent amount of loot in the earliest days of Hardmode.
Sound inadequate? It sure does to me, especially since its evil twin over there gets a whole boss devoted to it. If you're gonna add spreading biomes to your game that work as opposites, at least make them equally important.
This is a fairly large project I'm working with here, so bear with me. Before I get into the meat of the suggestion, I'd like to present my ideology and the structure of this project:
Corruptor
-Vile Spit will again create 2-3 tiles of Corruption where it lands, if it lands.
Crimslime
-Explodes into 1-2 ichorous projectiles when killed that create a tile of Crimson where they land
--Projectiles can be destroyed and move very slowly.
The reason for both of these monsters' changes is that spread will be much, much easier to block with the rest of this suggestion.
Sunflower
-Creates an aura of purity for 10-14 blocks around them in a circle
Monolith
-Completely blocks spread for 50 blocks around it, whether powered or unpowered
Steampunker
-Now spawns at any time if a house is constructed in the Hallow
Tombstone
-Now spawn naturally as set pieces, and wherever an NPC dies
-No longer requires a Mythril/Orichalcum Anvil to craft
Baby Pigron
-Passive, flightless
-50 HP, 100 Defense
-Spawns in the Underground Snow
-Can be caught and placed in a terrarium
-Killing (not catching) one summons 2-3 adult Pigrons to attack
Pigron Bank
-Dropped by Pigrons, 1.8% and Baby Pigrons, 5%
-Works as a pet, but provides access to your piggy bank if right-clicked
Croller
-Spawns in the Underground Hallow roughly as frequently as Chaos Elementals
-Tortoise AI
-200 HP
-34 Defense
-35 attack (unrolled); 67 (rolled)
-Shoots out 1-3 crystal shards when killed
--Immune to lava, so don't worry about that
--Shards go through blocks and will embed themselves in the walls after about 20 seconds, creating a hallowed tile where they land
--Can be destroyed by weapons

No feedback is bad feedback, unless it contributes nothing. Thanks, guys - seriously, I wouldn't do this kind of suggestion if it weren't for you folks.

652Graystripe said:Effectively, the Hallow is turned into the Corruption/Crimson's equal in this suggestion. This doesn't mean a new boss and it doesn't mean any drastic gating. Since the world is thrown wide open in Hardmode, with many different options open, it seems fitting that the Hallow should represent a major portion of early Hardmode while still not being a guaranteed first priority to the player.
Furthermore, it brings in the easy-to-visualize concepts about the spread of both the Hallow and its given counterpart. In effect, the Hallow is important for the player who wishes to control the two biomes rather than let them take over.
-The Jungle is now safeguarded from both Hallow and Crimson/Corruption spread. This was first brought up (I believe) by @MegaMage314 in this thread and still holds true today.
My reasoning? Though an experienced player might have worked their hands to the bone trying to protect the Jungle - and, disturbingly, may have failed - a beginning player doesn't understand Terraria's progression. To them, it's very open-ended with little direction; thus, they run the risk of having a very important biome destroyed without knowledge of the implications on any closing of their playthrough.
-One Floating Island is always chosen to become Hallowed at the beginning of Hardmode.
