This is a pretty cool idea! I agree with TerrorPenguin on the sprite, and maybe you could have a rare crystal house that uses this what you can get into once you are in hardmode.

I really like this idea! Puts a really good use for those crystal shards, and a stronger motive for me to go get 'em (or make a farm somewhere).

Granted, I'm perfectly fine with the original crystal shard sprite as is, I like the variation in the colored furniture!
