If you have broken the row of walls at the top edge of the underground layer, leaving a 1-block tall gap between the underground background and the surface backgorund, the light behaves weirdly, showing empty black squares instead of regular light which blink when there is another light source...

After obtaining all creature banners, you can combine them into a biome specific banner and then combine the biome specific banners into an ultimate banner. Also, a banner for each boss to make it easier to farm them after 50 kills. It's nice to show off items hard to find/craft :)
