This is an idea of mine that I have been thinking about for a while. I present to you......

The Trench
Note: This thread is a huge WIP. It will take a long time for me to finish it.

This is a biome that is on the seafloor, at the side of the jungle. It will have multiple layers, one for each stage of the game. It is shaped in a corruption chasm style, but on a much larger scale. It will reach into the underworld, and to a new biome:the vents.

First layer: Coral reef
This layer will continue to layer 0. It will contain many enemies.

Moray eel
Hp:40/70
7tiles long
Attacks by slicing tail at the player. Deals 30/50 damage.
Drops heavy tail, which is a 13 damage flail, with a 3.5%/5% chance of dropping.
Also drops a pizza pie (10% chance) gives well fed. (Thank you,Aa13!)
Coral fish
Ambient creatures
5hp
Mermaid
Hp:65/90
Will attack by dashing at the player with speed.
Damage:35/60
Drops: 50% chance: Mermaid scale. This will allow you to make a special water-themed armour and also a unique accessory: The mermaid tail
Mermaid hat:3 defence. This will allow you to have breath for 50% longer. Will need 12 scales.
Mermaid chestplate:4 defence. This allows for much more visibility underwater. Will need 24 scales.
Mermaid leggings : Will increase movement speed by 35% while in water. Will need 18 scales.
Mermaid tail : Allows much faster movement when moving sideways in water. Will change your characters size to 2x3. This will be as fast as the lightning boots. Will need 24 scales.

Also, the background will show a reef. The water will be a very light blue.

Blocks: Purple coral
Pink coral
Purple coral
(basically any colour of coral)
(unnamed block). This will be totally un-mineable. This is to stop massive lag if you try and drain the ocean.

New chest:coral
All potions will be water related (gills etc)
Has a 33% chance to contain scuba gear
Has a 33% chance for swashbuckling stabber
Has a 33% chance to contain portable air pockets (2-3)

So what does this loot do? Well...
Scuba gear allows you to consume 1 air tank per x amount of seconds (suggest a time). You can buy the tanks from the diver( new NPC coming up!).

Portable air pockets are a 2x2 infinite air pocket (can be placed anywhere in water).

Swashbuckling stabber is a downgrade of the arkhalis (17-20 damage)

And finally..... A new boss

The sea scorpion

Can be summoned anytime in coral reef
Will flee if outside it.

Claws : 450/700 health each

These are attached to the body by a string of some sorts. Will pass quickly at player before returning (like golem fists).
When they are dead, the 'string' will snap and they will fall to the floor.

Body: 2500 health

Will be able to climb anywhere underwater (like spiders). It will attampt to ram the player and then it will shoot a water wave( looks like sound vibrations)
Note: This boss will seem slightly underpowered, but its underwater.
Boss loot (oh yes)

Coral shards (89-150)
Throwing weapons
Damage : 29
Will have 150% more velocity than the shuriken and will have infinite pierce.
Fast speed
25% chance to be obtainable after throw
Drop chance: 100%

Second layer: Twilight zone
This will be accessed below coral reef. It will have backwalls and less enemies.

Squid
Same as normal one in game.
Octopus:100/150 hp
Will be larger than the player and will flail its arms about.
Damage:35/55 arms 70/100 beak

Third layer:the dark
It will be almost totally dark, apart from some photofloresent enemies. It will have a decent variety of enemies.
Fourth layer: The abyss
Will have backwalls and be totally dark. Many difficult enemies.
Fith layer: The horror
. Pich black with no light enemies. Has backwalls and inflicts the pressure debuff.

New NPC: Diver
(I think this is in a mod that I've never played so tell me if its been done)

Looks like a classic victorian diver
Attacks by using a heavy punch.

Sells :
Scuba tanks
Cost 10 silver each. Used with scuba gear. Can be used to breathe for 60 seconds underwater (30 with pressure debuff).
Stacks to 99

Shark fin
Vanity chest accessory.
Tooltip: Daaaa dun

Seems like a cool idea, but it needs more detail.
