Weapons & Equip Weapon Suggestion: Shields!

This was probably suggested a long time ago, but it's hard to search it with all the references to the accessory shields.
I found on a recent playthrough that it can feel very defeatist when you have a slog of projectiles heading your way, no cover you can get behind, and your healing potion is still on cooldown for a long time. It seems strange to not have anything more active you can do to prevent such attacks (and grapple-dodging is great if you're not fighting multiple hooks for control).

I'd like to hear what stopped the devs implementing a shield object that you select in the toolbar to cover you from projectiles in the direction you're facing? It would be really cool to be switching between your main weapon for attacking and a shield for blocking, just like real combat would be done. Here's some ideas:
- Selecting the shield in the toolbar puts a shield sprite in front of you for hit boxes, etc.
- Like the Umbrella you don't need to click to use it, it is used as long as you select it in the toolbar.
- Each shield has a Defence Stat and Block Bar Amount.
- When you select the Shield in your toolbar, the Block Bar appears overhead like the breath bar when in water.
- When you are attacked with any amount of Block Bar remaining, it triggers a block.
- When you block a hit, the Shield's Defense Stat is deducted from your Block Bar and added to your armour defense for calculating damage.
- The block bar slowly refills over time.
- Unless the shield's description says otherwise, clicking performs a very short range shield bash which deducts from the Block Bar.
- Switching to another shield won't change the amount of Block Bar you have filled.
- If your Block Bar is reduced to zero, you get a debuff that prevents shield use for some time.
- Blocking melee hits has a knockback effect on the attacker.
- Flasks apply their effects on blocking melee attacks

Rare Shields could have some awesome effects:
- Mine Shield: causes a fiery explosion when hit.
- Mirror Shield: deals magic damage back to blocked magic users.
- Medusa Shield: (made using a medusa head) does the Medusa Head attack if the Block Bar is full when a hit is blocked
- Fridge Shield: High defence, protects from front, above and below, like you're hiding in a doorless fridge! Can only be used when stationary.
- Magnetic Shield: pulls in enemies, higher pickup radius
- Box Fan Shield: pushes away enemies
- Personal Forcefield: provides 360 degree protection and explodes when the Block Bar is emptied
- Portrait of Dorian Grey: An upgrade to Medusa Shield but damage is lifesteal
- Toilet Seat: Low defence but enemies are less likely to attack you
- Bloody Heart: Blocking has a chance to create a life heart
- Devil's Scales: Shield defence is increased by proportion of Block Bar lost
- Large Telescope Lens: Low defence. Switching from this shield with a full block bar provides a percent increase to magic damage until the first magic weapon is used
- Machicolation: Like Telescopic Lens, but high defence, and instead of increased damage the blocking ability and defence of the shield continues until the first ranged or thrown attack
- Stick Hut: 360 degree shield with fast Block Bar regen that provides a percent increase to minion damage and reduces summon magic cost, but can only be used when stationary
- Brick Outhouse: Same as Stick Hut but very high defence and no summoner bonuses
- Light Curtain: No defence, but blocked magic attacks are converted to healing.
- Assassin's Foil: Blocking a melee hit causes you and the attacker to switch places
- Assassin's Smoke Bomb: Blocking any hit causes you and the attacker to switch places
- Chemistry Set: Blocking applies a random potion buff to you
- Dryad's Leaf Shield: Hold the mouse button to continuously increase your defense further while draining your block bar
- Jousting Shield: Double knockback and automatic shield bash damage when riding a mount or rail cart

Accessories could include:
- Shield Spikes: Thorns potion effect
- Shield Handles: Lowers Block Bar reduction
- Liquid Nitrogen: Adds a layer of ice to the shield, increasing shield defence by 50% when bar is full (so on first strike)
- Metal Polish: a small chance to nullify damage on block
- Weighted Frame: When blocking a hit, your attacker's knockback is added to your block
- Elbow Guards: Provides a 1 tile wide shield behind you for some defence and reappears after a few seconds after blocking a hit
- Helmet Padding: Same as Elbow Guard but covers the 1 tile behind your head and above it at the rear
- Leg Guards: Same as Elbow Guard but covers the 1 tile behind you from the ground up
- PPE: Combine Elbow Guards, Styrofoam Padding, and Leg Guards into one item with all their effects
- Pot Pourri Bag: Blocking has a small chance to remove Potion Sickness (allowing Health Potion to be used again)

Special Prefixes:
- Light: Faster Block Bar regen
- Tall: Increased size (covers an additional tile upwards and downwards)
- Swift: Percent chance to block an attack from any direction without reducing block bar
- Aerodynamic: Provides slow fall

I do think that shields are the obvious solution to Warrior's range viability problem- however, this makes it unlikely Re-Logic has not yet explored the idea

I was referencing the anime.
Oh yeah! I see what you mean now. I didn't like that guy.

But can you pogo bounce on your foes until the shield breaks?
Do you mean on an enemy player? Or a PvE foe that uses a shield?
In either case, hitting a shield (by attack or pogo bounce) would count as a block and thus reduce the block meter until they get Weak Arm debuff and can't hold it up. You'd still be hurting them with each block anyway, they'll just have added defence. It might need to take a rare Shield Knight shield to not take any damage when bounced on from above.
