After subjecting my computer to it for a while (bless the ability to install multiple OSs in one computer) I find this image to explain pretty much how things work with Windows 10, or, rather, how they don't:
I've been on the tech preview for some months now. There's still some stability issues, but it's getting there. Unfortunately, MS still likes to load your start menu with annoying Live tiles. The return of the start menu is nice, but it's not the same as Win7's. Still, it is better than Win8. To sum it up, Win7 > Win10 > Win8/8.1.
Also, the down side is that you're gonna have to upgrade to 10 eventually, since it's the last Windows OS, and Win7 support stops in 2020. Better redeem your free copy so you can upgrade in five years. And no, Win7/8.1 users won't be getting DirectX12. It is exclusive to Win10.
