There is a limit to patience though, and there is nothing that kills patience more than lack of progress.

Not everybody is born with skills and ability to quickly progress through something. For some it may take longer, but there's always an effect if you try enough and properly.

So try different things. If you can't water a dead plant, you just remove it and try with another.
