Pirates had parrots because they'd sell them in their travels. They weren't pets. Walking the plank is also a pirate myth. Why make someone die so inefficiently?

Real pirates either shot their prisoners or tortured them. If they were gonna toss them in the sea, they'd tie them up and let the ship drag them along. Gruesome.
