Spells are a bit more complicated to use, and like I said, it's almost never worth it to consume boss souls. You could also get the crystal sage's rapier, which I personally have never used, so I can't say how good it is.

Probably should also say that even if you do have the required stats for the spell, it's pretty bad as far as spells go.
