I think you arguably did more wrong here. If someone is insulting you then you just ignore them, punching them will only make the conflict worse.

I ignored them, they screamed in my ear, they tried to do it again, (I was gonna break his eardrum but too slow for that) so I elbowed him in the side of the head and pushed him away and then he walked away. And left me alone
