Yes, I know that saying "13+" isn't going to stop anything. It will probably not even do anything for me. It should be child directed content, instead of child attractive content, because EVERYTHING on youtube, and I mean everything, is child attractive according to the FTC's description. Youtube will just end up being a website full of gray scale things.
Many people freak out like they were at risk of lawsuits purely due to the absolute incompetence of Youtube's staff for the decisions, but some pointed out that if it came to a lawsuit due to COPPA, FTC representatives will be humans and professionals and probably wouldn't target individual Youtube users over decisions the site made over their heads.
The new system is to stop Youtube from exploiting children and the specifics that they can target people who have marked videos as "not for children" are to stop Elsa fetish porn creators from exploiting children by simply marking their videos falsely,
they likely have no interest in targeting adults playing games that could be enjoyed by children, especially if a disclaimer is given.
Those elsa fetish creators were stopped in january. The FTC came in because youtube was selling children's data. YouTube, like the idiots they are, weren't doing anything wrong, but because they went to advertisers and said "our viewers are on average 8 years old" they got fined, even though youtube is a 13+ platform.
That's true. But I still don't think the FTC would go after content creators who did not target children and had no reason to believe that children were a big part of their audience.
And who knows maybe this will finally force Youtube to get rid of the Pauls and trash like that.
the FTC is going after everyone because they believe that they're "saving children" when in reality youtube will just either get ruined or it will become a mature platform, and the children will still be watching. Also, when they fine people they get money.
But of course, demonetization for "adult" content also exists. It seems like the only way to make money on YouTube would be "hit and run" kind of videos (make the profits before it gets demonetized). Of course, channels also get deleted and such, so YouTube is just going to kill all content.
It has been. The whole time.
That's why websites require users to be 13+ in their ToS.
Youtube did the same thing, but in their infinite incompetence, they boasted about how many children Youtube was financially exploiting, so they had no plausible deniability in regards to data mining children.
