I don't live anywhere near there but I've heard that the situation hasn't improved, with the volcanic ash and all. I believe there are no deaths?

Well yeah.
50 years-ish isn't exactly a very long dormancy time compared to other examples.
It's mostly just ash fountains, really.
Considering that compared to other eruptions it's kinda the equivalent of half assed tossing of ash while going "nyahhh", even for an andesite eruption.
