We've recently had a rash of crashes that are corrupting save data. Nothing is really consistent about what's going on in game when it crashes. One of my kids is stuck in his base because the pillars are up and it's raining. It crashes as soon as he leaves his house(pillars on the left and right of his base). The Misc data got corrupted once, which just got deleted and we reloaded the game. Just a bit ago, three of us were playing. Two of us magic mirrored home to farm an invasion and the game crashed - Player data got corrupted. Luckily, I had backed up data back in January after the update came out, but my son lost a month of Cultist/Pillar/Martian Invasion farming. Back up your save data to a flash drive. I've sent reports to the link above, I just wanted to throw it out there to back up your data to relieve some of the headache.
To note, I pulled the HDD and tested it for errors. It's passing 100%. I don't think it's a hardware failure. It's a fairly new drive.
