PC How come chlorophyte doesnt like the sun

i assume it grows via chlorophyl, which requires light, so how come it only grows underground where there is no light

With the amount of plantlife underground, I think Light probably catches there.

Maybe underground there's more humidity that helps with the growth

Maybe it used to be a plant that could only grow underground, but when the Spirits of Light and Dark were released,
it mutated into Chlorophyte because of the Spirit of Light trying to prevent the spread of the Evil biome.

If you want to look at it from a scientific perspective, then yeah it should grow when there is light near it. That is what Chlorophyll does: collect energy from light especially sunlight. There is no reason for a plant to bloom in darkness.
Though there is a life form that blooms in darkness: Mushrooms. Numerous kinds of mushrooms and mold will grow in the absence of light feeding off of either decaying matter of trace chemicals. Do we thing maybe chlorophyte could be a fungus? It is combined with Glowing mushrooms to make Shroomite.

it would make more sense, but then why is it called chlorophyte
maybe the terraria scientists just called it that cos it behaves like a plant and is bright green

Carnivorous plant - Wikipedia there are plants like that on earth that get there engery this way so it is not a streach

if it doesnt use the sun, which it doesnt, does that mean it used to use chlorophyll and now that it lives underground it eats animals?
cos it clearly has chlorophyll in it but doesnt seem to use it
