You just need to learn how to use this emulator that emulates the xbox 360 controller with apparently any controller you have:

I tested this with my Playstation 3 PC controller that didn't work before in the game, and it worked with the emulator.

Now that i bought the STEAM version of the game i saw that steam can apparently emulate my controller, this strategy is only useful for the GOG version now maybe.
Legality:
I don't know if this is 100% legal since the emulator user can choose to use the emulator instead of buying the microsoft control.
