Materials crafted into blocks or "tiles" appear to have a different property than if they were crafted into personal armor. Most notably, an immunity to non-piercing projectiles and magic. It is unknown what phenomenon takes place during this crafting process that makes the materials take on these characteristics. This immunity does not apply to concussive blasts from explosions, which damage both tile and lifeform alike. It is theorized that the materials that make up the armor are just as impervious as their block counterparts, but the impact of attacks on the lifeform from native hostile creatures are forcing them to sustain internal damage as opposed to exterior damage; the personal armor offering only a partial buffering to the overall damage the lifeform is taking. Further research has stagnated due to a lack of funding from scientists having to reimburse test subjects for the money lost upon death, which is subsequently carried off by the hostile native creatures.
