    Mostly, it's intended as a "HEY! This is what I'm up to or feeling right now!" Although, posting on other peoples' profiles is pretty much starting up a non-private conversation with someone. Also, friendly bit of advice, be sure to note that comment button to the bottom left hand corner of status posts.
