Attention.

Might have people come and help 'em out of their Depression?

Because posting depressing posts on a site will make others depressed or they just want to talk to someone.

@Blue Lit If they really wanted that, they would search for help and literally ask for help. I know, because I've been there.

I think I know exactly who you're talking about. Posting a status update about IRL is fine, but when every single one is depressing, it's starting to get annoying.

nah, It is just that they can't keep their feelings for themselves. they know that posting depressed statuses won't help (they're not stupid duh)

A bit, but doesn't make me understand 100%.

Personally, I just see it as asking for attention.

Then again, said person limited who can view said person's profile, limiting the amount of attention the person we're talking about will get.

You see it as asking to get attention because you've never had depression.
I get depression A LOT, and when I post a status or a post about it, I do it because I can't keep my feelings for myself.
