Whenever I go into hardmode, I'll make use of the weapon/accessoire that the wall of flesh has dropped. if not, then I'll fight the Wall again for another chance.

Another option is to buy a shotgun from the Arms Dealer. for 25 gold you've a pretty powerful weapon to use.

and some explosive bullets are those good?

Explosive bullets are good, but not good to use with the shotgun. (because piercing, only one bullet will hit at a time)

Try making Crystal Bullets, I find those working really well with the Shotgun.

While the shotgun is quite powerful against normal mobs, against the Mech Bosses, you'll likely want to find something with better accuracy, and a higher rate of fire.
