The game is purely a boss rush with only a handful of platforming levels. Like... seriously, you can count them all on just barely two hands. The bosses themselves are the main focus and the meat of the game. As such, you have quite a bit to learn about how a fight works and how to avoid damage.

So... yes, the game is hard. Maybe even 'old school game' hard.

I wouldn't say it's NES Battletoads, Ghosts 'n' Goblins or Ninja Gaiden hard, though.
