Plantera doesn’t need to be defeated, just at least one mechanical boss. If I remember right the odds of a solar eclipse happening are.... 5%? That’s very low, do not expect to get a solar eclipse.
Edit: I suddenly realized what @Daikonradish meant by his comment, if you defeat Plantera you can access the jungle temple and obtain solar tablets that spawn solar eclipses.

Trust me, solar eclipses are rare and hard to get through. If I could say anything to you, get the best armor you can before even planning on taking one on
