Personally, I’m one for serious stuff, I tend to feel more inspired by stories that are serious and realistic as opposed to stories that are somewhat comedic and made to be lighthearted. It’s up to you though, so that’s just my 2 cents.

If you do go with a serious tone, do be careful not to fall into a line of just making it one horrible thing after another, as then it may just come off as edgy, which could take away from it a bit.
