i highly recommend the demon scythe book, or bee gun
minishark is also okay
nights edge always good for the hungries, then use a flail
be sure to have a nice long hell bridge, with plenty of vertical space

Flanelia: I have bee gun ready in my inv, I replaced minishark with star cannon so I need to get some stars, and there's a demon scythe in a chest at base

sounds like youre all set weapon-wise
what about armor?

Flanelia: I have Molten Armor, with Obsidian Shield (Warding), Flying Carpet, Lighting Boots, Blue Horseshoe Balloon and Obsidian Water Boots, though I'll probably switch to some better stuff for the battle like BoR

oh yeah and for your crimson problem, id just dig a 3 block wide trench around the crimson to prevent further spread until you can get a clentaminator
be sure to hammer the walls out too

Flanelia: the crimson is literally in the middle of the jungle I don't think that digging will do much
