Using lightning rods somewhat close to your things can surprisingly help if you really don't want your crops or pathways to get hit by lightning.
You might have to place a few though, because I'm pretty each one only works once per thunderstorm.

And it was ready to be harvested today. A shame.

@Orchamut There are 6 Lightning rods on the farm.
I guess I need more.

Are they around your crops? They also have a limited range apparently.

They don't say they have a specific range. So I placed them on the other edge of the map.
I placed 2 more next to my house now just in case.
