Most of this stuff was built a little at a time. "Oh, that needs to be bigger" is easier to see if you're walking through it. You get a feel for it after a while

My plans weren't detailed graph paper schematics. They were rough sketches of the general flow of a base. I like to work with the topography.

Ok I might start planning and sketching once I've gotten used to building (not including boxes)
