Biome Key Farming

The Cavillrene

Official Terrarian
Hello,

I've been playing Terraria for almost ten years (I remember the day I got it...Christmas sale + watching ATLA like a proper cultured individual) and among a lot of things is that I have not made a forum account until just now. I sort of come with a question for some of you fellow Terraria nerds on here, and as the title says, it relates to Biome Key Farming.

I have achieved three biome keys in my world so far - the Desert, Jungle, and Corrupt. I'm actually 114/115 achievements on Steam at the moment, so I'm on a completionist run; I even have a boss monument and everything. Part of this is getting the other chests, which leads me to wonder about farming methods.

Here's me;

I initially created this as a Dungeon farming area. It has the three wall types. There's also a Spider's Nest and a little bit of Marble off screen. I had the idea to spread Corruption so it also functions as a Soul of Night farm, and I get other goodies. The most recent addition is blocks for the artificial Tundra biome for the Ice Key. So I could eventually replace those with Hallowed blocks. I pretty much put most biomes that heighten spawn rates there, minus the Jungle and related biomes.

I see that composite biomes have a chance of dropping either key, so I think I'm good here? But maybe there's more optimal methods. I am curious. If you're curious, I got got by a Corrupt Mimic as I was placing the blocks. I'm also in favour of Henry Cavill becoming Wolverine.

That are a lot of tutorials online for making mob farms that can have blocks added to make them specific biomes. I would go with one of those.

Hallowed ice blocks work as well

I'd recommend looking at the enemy farming guide on the wiki, especially the hoik farm showcased in the underground/caverns section. It's very efficient and easy to change out mobs for. Speaking of mobs, limiting what mobs can spawn would help simplify killing enemies quickly; personally, I would use spider walls behind the spawn tiles and use desert walls behind the player, with an active desert biome for max spawn rate.

All biome keys have separate drops, so the more biomes the better, but hallow and corruption/crimson are mutually exclusive. Once you get one set you should switch to the other. Generally I prefer using infected stone for infectious biome block counts, pink ice can work but I'd recommend keeping 1500 pure snow biome blocks down anyway just to be sure the biome will remain if you remove the hallow.
