Buying once, playing on two computers together

I'm a long time mobile terraria fan and when I originally bought the game, I bought it and me and my brother both downloaded it using the same apple account (so we only bought it once between us). It's great and muiltiplayer works fine but I would now like to get it for our computers. Just wondering, is there is a way to do a simular thing by purchasing the game once and still being able to play it together using two different computers or would we need to buy the game twice for muiltiplayer to work? Also if I am using a mac and he is using a windows pc, would it still work? Not sure if this is helpful information but we are using the same internet connection.

Thanks for any help you give and I apoligise if this is in the wrong area as I don't use the forums much.
 
As far I can tell, Steam doesn't allow you to play games of one account on multiple computers at once. So purchases on two different accounts are necessary to play together.

And yes: Mac, Linux and Windows should be able to play together.
