If you can't even kill a Creeper or a single EoW segment without dying, that's a skill issue. A better way for the devs to make Hellstone renewable is by making Hellfire Arrows shimmer into it.

No it wouldn't be a better way. Hellstone Arrows can be obtained from Underworld house pots, and that would make it technically possible for a player to obtain Hellstone before even actually defeating a single boss. That's why they're the only other arrow besides Wooden Arrows to be shimmered into Shimmer Arrows instead of their crafting ingredients.

It takes 1 bar to make 100 of those arrows, breaking enough pots to get 1000 of those arrows would only get you 10.

It's super easy to get Molten Armor pre-boss, even in Getfixedboi.
If you can beat a single Creeper or EoW segment without dying, it's easy to accumulate 6 Shadow Scales/Tissue Samples, and the Demonite/Crimtane isn't very hard to get either.
I can take down EoC easily with just a minecart, a bow, wooden arrows, and a minecart track. Nothing else.
 
I still feel like obsidian/hellstone crates are the best source to get renewable hellstone, because it would take a while to even get some hellstone ore to craft a single hellstone bar, so its pretty balanced. Hellfire arrows should be supossed to be shimmered to shimmer arrows and not decrafted.
 
I'd like to mention that Hellstone Ore being found in Obsidian Crates does not mean you can get Molten Armor more easily pre-boss. You need Hellstone Ore already to get Obsidian Crates, because you can't fish in lava in pre-Hardmode without first getting the Lavaproof Bug Net.
