This is a simple guide which will teach you how to shortcut your custom emotes! What this means is that when you've finished reading this, you will be using the emotes @Jestex and/or @Milt69466 made you with shortcuts like these -> :) :D
Sounds pretty neat, huh? Let's get started!
Steps:
- First things first, you'll need to download a program called "AutoHotKey". It can be used to do amazing stuff, some of these include making custom hot-key combinations, overriding the built-in ones, and more (there are lots of tutorials). Download it from this site: http://www.autohotkey.com/
- After downloading and installing "AutoHotKey", go to http://imgur.com/. There, upload your fantabulous emote(s) all together. Don't seperate them from their siblings! Keep the tab open though, as you'll need to go back there in a bit!
- Create a file with the extention ".ahk" anywhere you fancy, give it a unique name, then right click it and select "Edit script". An empty notepad document with the name you chose should pop up your screen as a new window.
- Now we'll assign those shortcuts! To make one, you'll need to type ::<insert something like :) here>:: on the notepad window. Next to that, without space, paste the BB Code of the emote you uploaded on http://imgur.com/(you can find it on the tab I told you to keep open on step 2). Repeat this step for all of your emotes. Save the notepad document when you're done and close it.
- Now, all you need to do is run your ".ahk" file by either double-clicking it or right-clicking and choosing "Run Script". An icon that looks kinda like this
- You've made it! Now, whenever you type <insert what you wrote between the four ":" here>, tap Space after it and you'll see the shortcut being replaced with BB Code, almost like magic! Keep in mind that this will happen wherever you type, either in a reply here in TCF or on any text editing software.
- To un-assign the shortcut you made, simply right-click the icon in your notification bar and select "Pause Script" to deactivate it temprarily. Do the same to re-activate the shortcut. You also have the option to choose "Exit", but you'll need to re-run your ".ahk" file if you want the shortcuts to return.
I hope I've been of your assistance! Thanks for reading my guide! May the use of custom emotes be easy!
