Is it possible to be transparent about what is currently happening with 1.4.5? Because the hype will end up killing this update

Look, don’t get me wrong, I love this game, and I love that the developers make these free updates, but I want to be honest, because I’m not the only one, if the developers do what they did with Journey’s End again, I mean hype us up with the update for 3 years, and now do it again for 2 years, they’re going to end up killing what is supposed to be one of the most anticipated updates for Terraria with some of its players.

And now they're going to announce that they're going to do a new crossover when they haven't even released the previous one that was supposed to come out last year. If there was any hope now that the update would come out at the beginning of the year, with this announcement it's clear that we have at least another year of development.

We can understand that the development of the game may cause problems or that the development team itself may have problems and that this postpones the release of the update, but we would like them to be transparent for those who are waiting for the update, something like: "Look guys, we are sorry for not being transparent with you, we know that you are waiting for this update for a long time, but we have not been able to set a release date due to the emergence of these problems in development or the development team, we will try not to hype you more with this update until we are 100% sure we have a release date, then we will slowly show you the new features of this update", I think that with that at least we get rid of the hype and it would avoid the frustration of AGAIN happening a Journey's End 2.0

And again, this isn't a diss to the developers or the game itself, but I do think some transparency is needed regarding what's going on with this update.

The latest State of the Game is just around the corner, so I'd wait a few more days before thinking too deeply - The team has always been incredibly transparent and I''m sure you'll get your answers there, as well as any other questions you may have.

Speaking not as staff but as a long-term follower of Terraria, I'm not concerned about the wait. I know it's in works and the team is very passionate; The last thing they would do is release a half-baked update. It's also only been two years since the Labor of Love (1.4.4) update; I think a lot of peoples perceptions of the time it's been since it was announced have been skewed a little which happens easily when little content spoilers are being regularly shown.

I don't think that a long wait will kill the update or the game for that matter. Terraria is very well known and players in waiting have always returned on updates because they know that they are "good" updates. It's got a very active following which regularly has more new players finding the game and so-on.

Whether or not the crossover content impacts the length of development is unknown to me, it wholly depends on the scale they decide to do. I would however assume that the previously announced one (Dead Cells) is finished and implemented.

Once again, I'm sure you'll get your answer in a few days - Please keep an eye out for the State of the Game November.
When that comes I may lock this thread just to make sure that discussion goes there but for now I'll leave this open.

EDIT: As a matter of note you can find some context already in the recent pages of the October SOTG. Terraria State of the Game - October 2024 While I encourage you to wait you can read the couple of posts from Loki regarding 1.4.5.

Another worthless SOTG to basically say what we already knew, they don't have a release date and don't know when it will be out (except to say that it won't be this year...What a shocker!) Yawn!

Don't get mad at them for trying to keep their community informed on the process of the game, it's more than can be said of other, larger, game development teams.

Oh yeah, who would have said that what I said in this post was true, at least now they had the transparency to say that the update will NOT be released this year, that's a good thing, now we can play a game peacefully knowing that I won't be updated to the new version without prior notice.

I'm not sure what you were expecting? The message I linked is more than transparent enough and there's even an admittance of being at fault. Between the linked thread and the SOTG practically all of your questions in the first post have been answered, so I'm at a loss.

If there's any questions left unanswered then you're more than welcome to ask on the Terraria State of the Game - November 2024 thread. As long as you're respectful then you can ask practically any reasonable question, but yes questions about the release date will probably be met with "When its ready".
Though as mentioned in my previous post I'm going to go ahead and lock this just to direct further discussion there.
