Lost character and items

ive played terrarria and got some cool stuff including the best sword in the game
But I came off the game and turned the console off and when I went back on my character had gone along with all my stuff.
It still shows my achievements but everything else has gone.
Twice this has happened now and seems to be only when I turn the console off. I.e. If I come off the game and save data without turning console off completely the character is still then when I return.
But I can't keep the console turned on forever!!
It's a game download not a disc - don't know wether that makes any difference?
 
Are you sure that you saved the game completely and didn't turn off the console until the game was a the title screen? It sounds like you may not be completely saving the game before you turn of the console.
 
Yeah, from what you're saying I would make sure that you are saving the game and letting it completely save before turning off the console like what BK mentioned.
