Random npc spawner

Has anyone ever tried to make an npc spawner that always makes a random npc appear (including those modded) ?
 
I have. It's called a king or queen statue.

Also, this doesn't seem to be any sort of suggestion but a general question.

I was joking. That's part of vanilla. Just activate a king statue (for male NPCs) or a queen statue (for female NPCs) with wire, and it will teleport a random NPC to the statue.
